A Capella music – ‘singing accompanied without instruments’ was something I left behind with high school. As interesting as most groups sounded then, I just never could sit beyond 30 minutes listening to the range, tones and arrangements. I felt it was a “high school” phase and one never to be revisited, until the American comedy movie Pitch Perfect, hit the screens in 2012.
I had seen a preview of the movie and as much as I love Anna Kendrick & Rebel Wilson, I had sworn I would not be seeing the movie. I had just about had enough of sing-along movies and felt that movie genre was solely reserved for kids and teenagers. Fast track to some months after the movie premiered I was visiting a friend who cajoled me to see the movie and I was totally hooked!! Imagine seeing a movie countless times that I could recite movie lines and sing along with ‘Fat Amy’ (played by Rebel Wilson) on her solo rendition of “Turn the beat around”. As cheesy as I felt the love triangle between Skylar Astin (cast as Jesse) and Anna Kendrick (cast as Beca) was in the movie, their scenes added a lot more juicy delight to the movie.
So there I was at the end of the movie after the thrilling 360 degree turn around the group experienced, thanks to Beca’s harmonic combinations, itching for a sequel only to see the trailer and I so can’t wait for it to hit the screens in May!
So for the hard core “I don’t like sing-along/a capella movie group’ like I once was, this is one movie that would get you quite excited especially the rivalry across competing crews! You all are about to get Pitch Slapped!!!
Enjoy the trailer if you haven’t seen it yet and save the date and thank me later!
Toodles!
